In reference to the marine nature of its island site, this State Park Welcome Center is built of timber in the craftsman tradition of boat building.  Triangular copper panels compose a adaptive rain screen.  Some panels hinge along one side and open, allowing the cladding to adapt to the weather by automatically regulating vents and windows.  The building is off the grid with photovoltiacs and solar water heaters providing energy.  Rain water is collected on the large roof and pumped into cisterns to be used in the showers and toilets.
